We collect only what is necessary to process your purchase and deliver your files:
At checkout: your name, email address, and payment details. Payment details are processed entirely by Paddle.com Market Limited ("Paddle"), our payment processor and merchant of record, and are never stored on our servers. Paddle's privacy policy applies to all payment data: paddle.com/legal/privacy.
Email list: if you choose to enter your email in the "Receive the First Mark" form, we store that address for the purpose of sending you the transmissions you requested. This is separate from purchase records.
Automatically: standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited), and our own visitor counting. That counting is done by this site itself — there is no third-party analytics service, nothing is stored on your device, and your IP address is never written into our analytics records. Each visit is recorded as the page address, the site you arrived from, a broad screen-size category, and a token that changes every day. The token is derived from your IP address and browser, so we do not claim it is anonymous — but it is not linked to your name, and it cannot be connected across days. We do not use tracking pixels or third-party advertising cookies.
Purchase data is used to: deliver your files, provide purchase receipts, and resolve any delivery issues. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Email list addresses are used only to send the transmissions you requested. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email.
Payments are processed by a third-party payment provider. When you complete a purchase, you are subject to that provider's privacy policy and terms in addition to ours. We receive confirmation of payment and your email address; we do not receive or store your card number or banking details.
Purchase records (name, email, product purchased, date) are retained for a minimum of 5 years for accounting and dispute resolution purposes, as required under Kenyan law. Email list records are retained until you unsubscribe. Analytics records are deleted automatically after approximately 13 months.
We use reasonable technical measures to protect your data. No internet transmission is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate data, and to request deletion of your data where we are not legally required to retain it. To exercise these rights, contact contact@thesecondworld.org.
This site does not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking. Our visitor counting sets no cookie and writes nothing to your device, which is why you are not shown a consent banner. We may use a single session cookie to maintain checkout state. If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal, we record nothing at all for that visit.
We may update this policy as the site develops. The current version will always be available at this link. Material changes will be noted with a revised effective date.
